Urs Glutz von Blotzheim

Urs Noel Glutz Blotzheim ( born December 18, 1932 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss zoologist, known especially for his ornithological works. Glutz of Blotzheim is Professor Emeritus at the University of Bern, Honorary Doctor of the University of Freiburg (2008), and lives in Schwyz.

Life

Glutz studied in Fribourg zoology and became in 1957 a doctorate with an anatomical work. From 1957 to 1966 he was a research assistant at first, then deputy head of the Swiss Ornithological Institute. Since 1962, he taught as a lecturer at the University of Bern. In 1965 he received the venia docendi for Ornithological ecology and related conservation issues, he is honorary professor since 1975. In 1998, professor emeritus Urs N. Glutz Blotzheim. Since 1994 he has been living in Schwyz.

Works

His most famous work is the "Handbook of Birds of Central Europe ", which was published from 1966 in 14 volumes, and to this day is the standard work of German ornithology. He also brought in 1962 the work " the Switzerland The breeding birds " out and has authored numerous journal articles on a wide variety of ornithological subjects.
