Urschmitt

Urschmitt is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality elms.

Geography

Urschmitt located eight kilometers southwest of the town of Cochem and four kilometers north- west of the Moselle River. The village extends on a relatively flat terrain east of the hill Blinzberg (430 m above sea level. NN ). History

The first mention was in 980 - at that time still under the name Ursmadia. The state rule Kurtriers ended with the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine 1794/96 by French revolutionary troops. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Attractions

Urschmitt has few historical monuments, the church was built in 1910. However, the altar of the parish church of St. Quirinus comes from the former convent parlors.
