The origin Pass is a 836 m high mountain pass in the Alps on the border between Germany (Bavaria) and Austria ( Tyrol).

The pass is located in the Bavarian Alps, a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is located approximately 11.5 km (air line ) west of Kufstein ( Tyrol) and connects the Ursprungtal ( Bavaria ) in the north to the Thierseetal (Tyrol ) in the south. In Ursprungtal one of the headwaters of the Leitzach flows north towards Bavarian Zell. In Thierseetal the Thierseer Ache flows and are the namesake Thiersee and the community Thier.

While the river valley turns below the district Vorderthiersee northeast and steeply towards Wachtl and Kiefersfelden ( Bavaria ) falls, the road runs on the Tyrolean area to the east and leads on the winding Marblinger height ( 683 m above sea level. A. ) and past aL after Kufstein. This section is indeed attributable not the origin - pass road, but if the sole continuation out of the valley. The upward and downward slopes between Bavarian Zell and Kufstein exceed 13% and are passable with caravan.

History

On May 12, 1809 came to a fight between the Tyrolese and the United Bavaria / French, especially excelled the lieutenant of the 5th Line Infantry Regiment Preysing and later General Karl Freiherr von Pflummern in the course.
