Ursula Stenzel

Ursula Stenzel ( born September 22, 1945 in Vienna) is an Austrian politician (ÖVP ) and former journalist (ORF ). She is currently head of the district in the first district of Vienna Inner City.

Family

Stenzel comes from a Catholic-Jewish family. Her father came from a family of engineers Northern Railway; her mother was the daughter of a rabbi and Chasans in Rotensterngasse ( Leopoldstadt ). In his grandfather's official residence in the Rotensterngasse Stenzel grew up. The parents had survived through the help of the parish of St. Nepomuk. Ursula Stenzel was married from 1983 until his death in 2009 with the actor Heinrich Schweiger.

Career as a journalist

Stenzel graduated from the High School St. Ursula in Vienna. After not consummate studying journalism, political science and contemporary history it was nearly 30 years editor and presenter at ORF. As news anchor of the time the picture was known throughout Austria.

Career as a politician

After her retirement from the ORF Stenzel from 1999 to 2006 Member of the European Parliament and head of the delegation of the People's Party in Brussels. In the Vienna municipal and district council elections on 23 October 2005, she appeared for the ÖVP Vienna as a top candidate for the district council of the first district of Vienna ( Innere Stadt). There, she fell on mainly due to the controversial claims in the election campaign. She could imagine the closure of parks for non- residents in an interview, arguing for the closure of punch stalls and street performers against the pedestrian zones. Even after the election, Stenzel spoke out about against the so-called " New Year's Trail " ( stalls with drinks and snacks, which are set up on 31 December at the trench ) in the city center and the advertising banners on scaffolding in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral. The ÖVP scored with 3,428 votes ( 10.21% ) and 18 mandates a significant electoral success and the district director referred the aspiring SPÖ with 2,361 votes ( 4.20% ) and 13 seats clearly in second place. On 22 December 2005 Ursula Stenzel was elected with 20 of 40 district mandatary for District Chairperson.

Blue Shield - Protection of Cultural Property

As District Chairwoman of the first district of Vienna ( Innere Stadt), which is an ensemble UNESCO World Heritage Site, it bears political responsibility for the preservation of this cultural heritage. In November 2011, Stenzel was elected President of the Austrian National Committee of the Blue Shield ( cf. Blue Shield International).

Criticism

Counter Stenzel's attitude regarding curfews in places in the 1st district of Vienna was formed in February 2011, the Viennese club scene and spread via Youtube a satirical music video titled " Ursula Stressned " ( a cover version of " Barbra Streisand " by Duck Sauce ), which large within a few days gained media public.

In 2012 she calls again for a ban on alcohol in public according to the Graz model. With this proposal, they came in the past with little enthusiasm and hopes for the advance of Graz now on more consent. In an interview on derstandard.at comparing adolescents with backpackers who harm the catering business because they take alcohol rather own and consume in public. Furthermore, it implies a statement in which she compares the Non smoking protection with the prohibition of alcohol that people who drink in public, were alcoholics and leave their filth.
