Urtaku

Urtak ( elamitisch probably Urtagu ) was a elamitischer king who reigned from about 675-664 BC. He was the brother of his predecessor Humban - Haltaš Urtak II and his reign are known only from the Babylonian and Assyrian chronicles.

At the beginning of his reign there was a contract between the Assyrians under Ashur - ahhe iddina and the Elamites, during which the Elamites some cult images, which they had captured in earlier campaigns gave back. In the following years there was a famine in Elam, and then the Assyrian king Ashur - bani - apli grain delivered to Elam. Refugees from Elam could settle so long in Assyria until there should come to better harvests. Despite these good relations Urtak attacked in 664 BC in Babylonia, but was defeated by the army of Ashur - bani - aplis what Urtak also died in the same year.
