Uruguayan Antarctic Institute

The Instituto Antártico Uruguayan (IAU ), the Uruguayan corporation, which controls the research in Antarctica organizes, manages, directs and promotes.

It was founded on January 9, 1968 by a group of individuals. Your chair, Professor Julio César Musso held, whose book Antártida Uruguaya in the same year appeared. On August 28, 1975, the Institute was transferred by Article 103 of Law Nr.14.416 in the national Defense of Uruguay.

The Instituto Antártico Uruguayan is the operator of the Research Station Base Científica Antártica Artigas and the Estación Científica Antártica founded in 1997, Ruperto Elichiribehety in Antarctica.
