Urve Tiidus

Curve Tiidus ( born June 6, 1954 in Rapla ) is an Estonian politician. It belongs to the liberal Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ). Since December 2013, it is Estonian Minister of Culture.

Life and career

Curve Tiidus was born Urve Uussaar in the city Rapla. In 1972, she completed her secondary schooling in Tallinn. She then studied until 1977 English at the State University of Tartu. Then she went to the Estonian television. There she worked as a spokesperson and editor for Child and Youth programs. She also translated from English.

In December 1998, entered Tiidus the liberal Reform Party at ( Reformierakond ). From 1999 to 2001 she was Head of the Culture and Education Department in the Municipality of Kuressaare on the island of Saaremaa. In 2001, she joined as a news anchor and " Anchorwoman " for private Estonian television station Channel 2

From 2005 to 2011 was Tiidus Mayor of Kuressaare. In the 2011 general election, she was elected for the Reform Party as deputies to the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).

In December 2013 Tiidus was appointed in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip to the Minister of Culture. Your predecessor, Rein Lang, was resigned after the opposition and journalists' associations had accused him of influencing a government-sponsored cultural newspaper Sirp. After the end of the ruling coalition, she has held the same office in the coalition government under Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas.

Private life

Curve Tiidus is married. She has a son and a daughter.
