Urzhum (pig)

The Urschumer pig (Russian Уржумская transcribed Urschumskaja ) is a meat pig breed from Russia.

Breeding history

The breed was developed near the city of Kirov Oblast in the Urzhum by with boars of Large White breed crossed domestic sows. In 1957, the breed was officially recognized.

There are 15 sire lines and 15 sows families.

Occurrence

The breed is mainly held in the oblasts Kirov, Kostroma and Moscow, and also in Mari El, Udmurtia and Tatarstan in Russia. In 1980, 39,900 purebred animals the total number.
