USB video device class

The USB Video Class (UVC ) summarizes certain devices that stream video data over USB, such as webcams, to a special class of USB devices together. In this case, an appropriate USB device is only considered UVC device when the USB Device Class Definition for Video Devices met, ie meet the minimum requirements of the UVC specification. Such devices have the advantage that they require for their operation no separate drivers as a single UVC driver can operate the equipment of different manufacturers. The UVC specification is published by the USB Implementers Forum on USB.org.

A file created on the basis of re-design free implementation of a UVC driver is available ( luvcview ) and allows, for example, under Linux the connection of UVC devices via the video4linux2 interface. Consistent surface of this is the GTK2 -based " GTK UVC Viewer" ( guvcview ).
