User (computing)

Under a username ( engl. Username) is defined as a name by which a user logs on to a computer, a website or a program. In the internet it usually is used to log on to a user account and requires registration. In the case of services without a fixed user account, such as Internet Relay Chat, the Username with the user name is the same.

The user name is often not chosen and assigned by the user, but by the respective provider.
