The USS Comstock (LSD- 45) is a dock landing ship of the United States Navy and is one of Whidbey - Iceland - class. It was named after Comstock Lode, a mine in Nevada.

History

LSD -45 was commissioned in 1985. In 1986 the ship at Avondale Shipyard was placed on Kiel, in early 1988 it ran from the pile and was baptized. The commissioning of the Comstock took place on 3 February 1990.

On their first mission trip, the Comstock supported the evacuation following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo on June 15, 1991. Besides, she was involved in Operation Desert Storm. In 1993 she participated in Operation Continue Hope off Somalia in part. In 1995, the ship returned to the Persian Gulf, where she sat by the UN resolution against Iraq and participated in maneuvers with Jordanian forces. A similar application was followed into the new year 1997/1998. 2001/2002, the Comstock was used as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. In Iraq War, it was used in 2003.

2006/2007 the ship sailed as part of the continuing U.S. military presence along with the USS Boxer (LHD- 4) in a nine -month deployment in the Persian Gulf again. The Comstock in 2008 took part in the maneuvers RIMPAC, 2010, she repeated participation. 2008/2009 the ship then again accompanied the boxer on a relocation in the Pacific, 2011 in the Indian Ocean.
