The USS Coronado (AGF -11) ( previously LPD -11 ) was a Amphibientransportdock services in the United States Navy. She was a member of the Austin class.
History
The ship was built by the Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company of Seattle and is named after the city of Coronado, California.
1970 Coronado was incorporated into the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and spent some time in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. In 1980 she was modernized and as the command ship of the U.S. Middle- East -Fleet, which was stationed in the Persian Gulf.
In October 1985, the ship broke the USS Puget Sound (AD -38 ) as the command ship of the U.S. 6th Fleet. Over the next ten months, the ship took part in an operation in the Gulf of Sidra, and fought Lebanese terrorists.
In July 1986, the Coronado was replaced as command ship and stationed in Pearl Harbor, to become the command ship of the 3rd fleet little later. After the ship was replaced again soon reinstated it as a command ship. In 1988, the ship returned to Pearl Harbor.
During this time, the Coronado and the 3rd Fleet was the center of innovations and improvements of all kinds in 1998 was modernized the ship extensively. After the USS Blue Ridge (LCC -19), the command ship of 7th Fleet, had to go into dry dock, the Coronado took over their tasks.
In 2006, the ship was finally decommissioned and is now waiting for its termination.
