USS D-2 (SS-18)
The USS Grayling (SS -18 ) was a submarine of the D- class services in the United States Navy.
History
The Grayling expired on June 16, 1909 at the Fore River Shipyard from the stack, which had built the boat as a subcontractor for Electric Boat. On 23 November of the year the boat was put into service and renamed two years later in D-2.
The D-2 was the flagship of Submarine Division 3 in the Atlantic and participated in shooting and diving exercises. In 1915 she participated in the Presidential Review of the Fleet.
During the First World War, the D- 2 was a test platform in New London, Connecticut. On September 9, 1919, the boat was eventually assigned to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in the reserve fleet, made on January 18, 1922 and sold out of service in September of the year to be disassembled.
