The USS Dahlgren ( DLG-12/DDG-43 ) was a destroyer in the United States Navy and was a member of the Farragut class.

History

The Dahlgren was commissioned in 1956 and 1958 placed on the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Kiel. The launch took place in 1960, the commissioning of the following year. The ship is named after Admiral John Adolphus Bernard Dahlgren. At the time of commissioning, the ship was designated as DLG - 12, ie as a destroyer leader with guided missiles.

On their first trip Dahlgren visited the several European countries, including the destroyer put in Kiel and several Scandinavian ports. 1962 Dahlgren was involved in the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis. Later the ship from the Atlantic Fleet was taken out and used in the context of the Vietnam War as a Combat Search and Rescue unit in the Gulf of Tonkin. In the following years, the Dahlgren drove back in the Atlantic, partly as a flagship for regional commanders. 1972 and 1973 spent the ship for overhaul and modernization in their shipyard.
