The USS Jack Williams ( FFG- 24) is a frigate of the Oliver Hazard Perry class. It was built by the United States Navy, now it is run by the Bahraini Navy under the name Sabha (90).
History
The Jack Williams was laid on February 25, 1980 at Bath Iron Works in Kiel and launched on August 30, 1980 from the stack. It was named after Jack Williams, who fell during the Battle of Iwo Jima, and posthumously received the Medal of Honor. The commissioning of the Jack Williams in the United States Navy took place on September 19, 1981 as the 16th unit in its class.
During her time in the U.S. Navy, she participated among others in Operation Praying Mantis, Operation Desert Storm and in Operation Support Democracy against Haiti.
Since she was one of the "short" units of the Perry class that Jack Williams was in 1996 again decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register. That same year, the ship was sold to the Navy from Bahrain, where it continues as Sabha (90). In 2008 she took part in the multinational exercise Arabian Shark.
