USS Pelican (MHC-53)

The USS Pelican ( MHC 53 ) was a mine hunting boat of the United States Navy. She is the third boat of the Osprey class.

On 6 June 1991, the keel laying of the USS Pelican ( MHC 53 ) was performed. The ship was put into service on 18 November 1995. Since 1 January 1997 the ship was part of the Naval Reserve Force and was used for the training of reservists. On 16 March 2007, the Pelican was provided along with the USS Heron (MHC -52) decommissioned and transferred to " warm state" to the Greek Navy. After completing a basic repair and crew training, the two ships were transferred to Greece. The Pelican was renamed Evniki.

The first USS Pelican (AM -27) was from 1918 to 1945 in service in 1919 and used for mine clearance in the North Sea. After a reclassification USS Pelican (AVP -6) in 1936, the ship was also during World War II as convoy escort vessel in use.

The second USS Pelican (AMS -32) was from 1947 to 1968 in service and got during the Korean conflict nine battle stars awarded.
