USS President

Two ships of the U.S. Navy have been named USS President, after the office of President of the United States.

  • The first USS President was a frigate with ( nominally ) 44 cannons. She ran 1800 off the stack and was captured by the British in 1815 and made available as HMS President in the service of the Royal Navy, but in 1818 scrapped.
  • The second USS President was a sloop with 12 guns, which was acquired on Lake Champlain in 1812 and used in the service of the U.S. Navy. She was captured by the British in 1814 and provided by the Royal Navy as HMS Icicle in service.
