USS Samuel B. Roberts

Three ships of the U.S. Navy USS Samuel B. Roberts were named after the first mate Samuel Booker Roberts, who was killed in front of Guadalcanal in 1942 during a volunteer mission to rescue a squad Marines and the Navy Cross posthumously received:

  • The USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE- 413), a destroyer of the John C. Butler - class, put into service in 1944 and during the sea and air battle sunk in the Gulf of Leyte.
