Immediately after the launch in March 1946, the Skylark was assigned to the reserve fleet. Starting in 1962, the ship also placed in European waters, including the Mediterranean and Holy Loch, Scotland.

In April 1963, the Skylark went with the submarine USS Thresher (SSN -593 ) on the test drives, where the Thresher was lost. By 1973, Skylark was still serving in the U.S. Navy and was then sold to Brazil, where she was a Gastão Moutinho active until 1988.
