USSF Division 2 Professional League

The USSF Division 2 Professional League (D2 Pro League ) was founded in 2010 by the USSF, the Football Association of the United States. It was only played one season and replaced in time the USL First Division. In the U.S. and Canadian soccer system, the D2 Pro League took over the second level after the Major League Soccer.

History

On 27 August 2009, the U.S. sporting goods supplier Nike announced its participation in the United Soccer Leagues to the investment company NuRock to sell. So the company decided against an offer from Jeff Cooper, chairman of the St. Louis Soccer United, and other team owners of the USL First Division. Disappointed with the sale and dissatisfied with the current situation of the League, the group decided to Cooper establishing a new league. This should be a reincarnation of the North American Soccer League.

Three of the teams that wanted to participate in the new NASL, still had valid contracts with the USL. Thus, the USL First Division would have consisted of only six teams in 2010, which was not enough for a reasonable league play. Thus, the United States Soccer Federation created a league consisting of 12 teams, which is first compiled for one season. Six out of six of the USL and NASL. The league was divided into a USL Conference and the NASL in a Conference. However, all teams play each other.

Format

With the introduction of a new league match method was used. The teams were, regardless of their Conference membership, divided into " pods" (pots ). This results from the distance between the teams.

The teams that are in the same "pod", playing a total of four times against each other, two home and two away games. Furthermore, each team will play against a team from another "pod" also four games. Against the rest only two games will be played. So each team comes to a total of 30 games.

At the end of the regular season, the play-offs will be played in KO system. The winners of the Conferences automatically qualify for the play- offs. The other six teams will be drawn to the amount of their score.
