Ust-Maya

Ust- Maya (Russian Усть - Мая; Yakut Уус Маайа ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 2923 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located some 300 km as the crow southeast of the Republic capital Yakutsk on the left bank of the most important Lena Creek Aldan, opposite the mouth of Maya.

Ust- Maya is the administrative center of Ulus Ust- Maisky. The settlement is the seat of the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Ust- Maya, which also includes the part of the village of Ust- Judoma, about 150 km south near the mouth of the Judoma in maya.

History

The settlement was founded in 1930 as the basis for the development of the east, situated in the catchment areas of the rivers and Judoma Allach -Jun goldfields. The name refers to the location at the mouth of Maja ( Ust- of Russian Ustje for mouth ). 1931 Ust- Maya administrative center of Ulus newly formed ( Rajons ). Since 1957, Ust- Maya has the status of an urban-type settlement. In 1972, the settlement lost its function as Rajonverwaltungssitz to the mining settlement Solnetschny, but received it back in 1992.

Ust- Maya is the end of a nearly 250 -km-long winter slopes from northwest adjacent Uluszentrum Amga, which in turn can be accessed via the road R502 from Nizhny Bestjach at Yakutsk on Maija.
