Uta Hick - Saki in the zoo of Brasilia

The Uta Hick - Saki ( Chiropotes utahickae ) is a primate of the group of New World monkeys ( Platyrrhini ). He is after many years of primate curator at the Cologne Zoo, Uta Hick (later Uta Rümpler ) named, and is sometimes combined with Satan monkeys to one species.

Uta Hick - Sakis resemble Satan monkeys, but their fur is more brown and not dyed black. There are medium sized primates with short, dense fur. The head is in adult animals characterized by the hair and the long beard by the throat. The tail is long and very bushy.

Uta Hick - Sakis occur only in Brazil. Its distribution area is bordered by the Rio Xingu and the east by the Rio Tocantins in the north of the Amazon, in the west. Their habitat is forests, mainly tropical rainforests.

Little is known about the lifestyle of Uta- Hickmann Sakis, probably agrees with that of the other Bartsakis match. Consequently, they are diurnal and arboreal, usually move around on all fours. They live in large, mixed groups, which are divided into smaller groups to forage. Their diet consists mainly of hard-shelled fruits and seeds.

Main threat to these primates is the destruction of their habitat by construction projects and conversion into agricultural areas. In addition, the hunting is for their meat and fur. The IUCN fears a population decline of 50 percent over the next 30 years and lists the species as " critically endangered " ( endangered ).
