Uta von Ballenstedt

Uta von Ballenstedt (* 1000 in Ballenstedt, † October 23 before 1046 ) from the House of Ascanians was married to Margrave Ekkehard II of Meissen.

Life

She was a daughter of Count Adalbert of Ballenstedt and Hidda, daughter of Margrave Hodo I. ( 965-993 ) of the Saxon Mark Lausitz. She was the sister of Esico of Ballenstedt, the progenitor of the Ascanians. Her father married probably reasons of power politics in the year 1026 to the Margrave of Meissen. The marriage remained childless. This marriage ended the family of the Ekkehardiner.

Uta's dowry was made after the death of her husband Ekkehard II in 1046 partly to the pin Gernrode, where her sister was Hazecha later than 1044 elected abbess, and to the Empress Agnes. As Mitstifterin of the Naumburg Cathedral, she was the plastic Uta of Naumburg, a dedicated 12 founding figures, in addition to the figure of her husband in the west choir of the cathedral.
