Utajärvi

Utajärvi [ utɑjærvi ] is a municipality in the Finnish countryside Nordoesterbotten. It is located about 50 km southeast of the city of Oulu at the middle reaches of the rivers Kiiminkijoki and Oulujoki.

The community was founded in 1865 and next to the Kirchdorf Utajärvi includes the villages Ahmas, Alakylä, Ala- Naama, Ala- Niska, Juorkuna, Järvikylä, Kangaskylä, Kemilä, Kormunkylä, Murronkylä, Naamankylä, Niska, Ojakylä, potku, Sanginkylä, Sipolankylä, Sotkajärvi, Särkijärvi, Tervolankylä, Utanen, Ylisuvanto and Yli- UTOS. The settlement is focused in the south along the valley of the Oulujoki; the rest of the municipal area has been inhabited very thin. The municipality covers an area almost twice as big as Berlin, but has only a little more than 3,000 inhabitants.

Main employer in the structurally weak and barely industrialized region, the community itself as well as the agriculture and forestry. In recent years, the nature tourism has grown in importance. In the southeast, the community share in the Rokua National Park, which is known for its pristine pine forests in the north of the reserve Olvassuo.
