Utcubamba Province

Utcubamba is a nordperuanische Province and one of the seven provinces that form the Amazon region. It is bordered on the north by the Bagua province and the province Condorcanqui, on the east by the province Bongará, to the south by the province of Luya, and on the east by the Cajamarca region. It has an area of ​​3859.93 km ², that is, it occupies 9.83 % of the area of the Amazon region. It is located between the coordinates 77 ° 51'7 and 78 ° 42'12 east longitude and 5 ° 23'25 and 6 º 10'53 Southern wide.

The name comes from the local Quechua Utcubamba. Utco means " cotton ", and pampa is a " level ". So Utcubamba is a plane, is planted to cotton. Thereafter, also the river Utcubamba is named.
