Ute Geweniger ( born February 24, 1964 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a German former swimming athlete, who - starting for the GDR - 1980 to 1983 belonged to the world's best. She won a total of 16 medals at Olympic Games, World and European Championships, including 13 gold.

Career

The most successful she was on the track 100m breaststroke: Here she improved the world record six times, and won the gold medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. A second victory in these games, she succeeded in the 4x100 -meter medley relay in the GDR.

At the European Championships in Split 1981 she won five times - the 100m breaststroke (world record: 1:08,60 min) and 200m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley and the 4x100 -meter medley relay in the GDR. Other successes

Ute Geweniger competed for the SC Karl- Marx-Stadt and trained with Joachim Rother. After the dissolution of the GDR, she opened a beauty salon in her hometown of Chemnitz.
