Utena County

The Utena ( German district Utenen ) was one of ten counties that made up the top step of the administrative division of Lithuania from 1994 to 30 June 2010.

Center of the region is the city of Utena. The area of the former district has the most lakes in Lithuania. It corresponds to the northern part of the historic landscape of Upper Lithuania.

Administrative divisions

The Utena district is divided into six municipalities ( savivaldybės ), which are taken far greater than in Germany and rather smaller German " counties " or higher. In Utena district there is a township and five district municipalities ( rajono savivaldybės ), which consist of smaller towns and villages ( inhabitants on 1 January 2006)
