UTP—glucose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase

UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase ( UGPase ) ( or UTP -glucose -1 -phosphate uridylyltransferase, Gene: UGP2 ) is the name of the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion from UTP and glucose-1- phosphate into UDP -glucose. This reaction step is part of several metabolic pathways in most organisms. The previously suspected second homologue in man with the gene UGP1 probably does not exist.

Catalyzed reaction

PPi

UMP is transmitted on UTP glucose -1-phosphate, UDP-glucose is generated and pyrophosphate. The reaction is part of the glycogen synthesis, the glycogen depletion, the galactose metabolism and the uronic acid metabolism.
