Utscheid

Utscheid is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle. In addition to the main town of the districts Buscht and Russdorf belong to the community.

History

The area around Utscheid was evidenced by findings already in the Roman period and settled in front of it. The place Utscheid was first mentioned in 1330 under the name Oizscheid in a dispensing list. He belonged to the reign of New Castle. During the Thirty Years' War the place was desolate. Visitation records from 1712 reported on the state of construction of the church which was in 1746 replaced by a new building. From the old church only the basement of the tower remained. Since the 1770s here a glassworks was operated. This was in 1796 bought by Johann Dominik Laeis, to close them then.

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Towards the end of the 19th century, the city had 200 inhabitants, whose numbers rapidly increased in the sequence. After World War II temporarily occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

On March 1, 1971 Outscheid was renamed Utscheid.

Parish council

The local council in Utscheid consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The previous council consisted of eight councilors.

  • The Church of St. Peter in 1746, with partly preserved medieval tower, has an extensive baroque interior.
  • The 16 -meter-high circular water tower from 1956 made ​​of exposed masonry stands on a hill dominating the wider environment.
