Uttenhoffen

Uttenhoffen is a commune of 178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

Location

The village is situated at the confluence of Zinsel du Nord and the Falkenstein River, and is accessible via the D1062, which connects Haguenau with Niederbronn- les- Bains.

History

Finds from the Neolithic Age and the Hallstatt period are also assigned as the settlement in Roman times. After the introduction of the Reformation in the 16th century Uttenhoffen had until the 18th century, an interdenominational church. Around 1790 it was attached. On 1 December 1793 the nearby winter camp of Major General Bernhard Stephan Keglevich and his private Serbian soldiers was attacked by surprise. 7 days later Madame Dubarry, was executed for treason on December 8, 1793.

Special

The village was in the 18th century as a village most of his administrative unit; at the moment it is the smallest and also has the smallest church in Alsace. The choir of Saint -Jean -Baptiste goes back to the 16th century; an inscription at the west entrance points to restoration work in the 18th century.
