Utupua Island

Utupua is an island of Santa Cruz Islands in the Solomon Islands. The 378 -meter-high island is located between Vanicoro and Santa Cruz. Administratively, the island belongs to the province of Temotu.

The island is a relatively high island that is completely surrounded by a coral reef.

In 1999, the island had 848 inhabitants, distributed among several small villages. The most important villages are Avita, Malombo, Tanimbili ( Tanabili ) Apakho ( Apakhö ) Nembao ( Nimbau ) and Asimboa. Utupua is one of only three islands on the still the Santa Cruz dove occurs, a pigeon, which is classified by the IUCN as endangered.
