Uugla

Uugla ( German and Swedish Udenküll ) is a village in the rural community Oru, Lääne, Estonia.

Uugla lies on the west coast of Estonia in the former parish Pönal in Wiek.

History

1323 the then Good Udenküll was first mentioned as a fief of the de Udencul family, a family branch of Brakel documented. The de Udencul family, which took its name from the estate until 1388 was documented, then goes out before 1420. Around this time about Udenküll has been verlehnt to the Varensbeke family. This extended the rule of Udenküll targeted. Until 1478 they acquired small Harja and Bisholm, 1522 they received the exclusive right to the islands Tuvenholme with Udenküllholm, as were the villages Harra in the parish Nuckö and Voerla 1557 to Udenküll. Anna Fahrenbach a.d.H. Udenküll, a granddaughter of John III. turned the property as heiress to her husband Kersten Tittfer. 1593 sold Georg Berlin the desert village Udenküll to his uncle Matthias Treyden, later was Woldemar Gustav von Knorring († 1787), owner of Udenküll. Udenküllholm was sold in 1840.

On Udenküll many Swedish farmers were already settled in the 15th century.
