UUM-125 Sea Lance
The UUM -125 Sea Lance is a weapon system that was developed by the U.S. Navy in 1980 to combat under-and above-water targets to replace the UUC -44 Subroc. The weapon came but never about the project status addition, the development program was stopped in 1990.
The Sea Lance is a mix of missile and torpedo. She flies like a rocket towards their target and then immersed briefly in front of the goal into the water to swim further than torpedo.
Benefits of Sea Lance
- It reaches its destination faster than a normal torpedo and can be used over longer distances.
- You can - in contrast to Torpedo - also be used by aircraft from a great height.
- Missiles can be relatively easily repelled by military vessels: Heat Seeker Missile with false heat sources and radar missiles with aluminum strips. However, many military ships have no underwater defense and a torpedo are helpless.
