Uvira

Province

Uvira is a city on the northern shore of Lake Tanganyika in the same district of the province of Sud- Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 2005, Uvira 170 422 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005), while there were 74 432, according to census 1984. The city is situated on the road to Bukavu and Bujumbura. There used to be a sugar factory in Uvira, but this is bankruptcy for several years.

Uvira is the seat of a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church ( Diocese of Uvira ) and is located in the Archdiocese of Bukavu.

From Uvira comes the Bremen soccer player Assani Lukimya - Mulongoti.

District Uvira

Uvira is one of the eight districts in the province of Sud- Kivu. It is bordered on the north by the Sud- Kivu district Walungu, to the east by Burundi and Lake Tanganyika, to the south by the Sud- Kivu district Fizi and to the west by the Sud- Kivu district Mwenga.
