Uwe Bewersdorf

Uwe Bewersdorf (* November 4, 1958 in Freital ) is a German figure skater, who started in pair skating for the GDR.

Career

With seven years Bewersdorf began figure skating at the ESR Post Dresden. This BSG was acquired in 1972 by the transport operators Dresden. From this BSG finally came out of the SC Einheit Dresden, for which he then took. He trained with Uta House. His skating partner was Manuela Mager.

1977 and 1978 were Uwe Bewersdorf and Manuela Mager GDR Champion. In 1977, she also had her debut at major international tournaments. At the European Championships in Helsinki, they were fourth and at the World Championships in Tokyo Fifth. In 1978 they won their first medals. At the European Championships in Strasbourg, she won the bronze medal behind the Soviet pairs Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev and Marina Cherkasova and Sergei Schachrai in Ottawa and they were runners-up behind Rodnina / Zaitsev. In 1979, she contested any contests. In 1980, it was enough for them as reigning vice-champion GDR behind Sabine Bäß and Tassilo Thierenbach at the European Championship only to fifth place. A little later Bewersdorf and skimmed won Olympic bronze at Lake Placid, however, and were following the resignation of Rodnina / Zaitsev Vice World Champion in Dortmund behind Cherkasova and Schachrai.

The pair lean / Bewersdorf was the first pair of the world that showed the triple throw loop jumps in a competition. Because Manuela Mager ended her skating career in 1980, Bewersdorf had to find a new partner. So then he trained with Marina Schulz. However, the couple did not qualify for international championships themselves.

Uwe Bewersdorf studied at the Leipzig DHfK. He is now an accountant in Baden- Württemberg.

His surname is sometimes, therefore, also written Bewersdorff with double -F. This is the result of a faulty regulatory administrative act. His parents are written with an F.
