Uwe Rahn

Uwe Rahn ( born May 21, 1962 in Mannheim -Schönau ) is a former German football player.

Club career

Rahn began in 1970 at the Mannheimer TSV Schönau playing football at the club. In 1975 he moved to the youth department of the neighboring SV Waldhof Mannheim. 1980 began with his transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach Bundesliga Rahn's career. Even in the first season, he fought his way to a starting berth at Borussia. After Gladbach had slipped in comparison to the 1970s, especially at the beginning of the 1980s in the Bundesliga something Rahn held, with his team to move into the DFB Cup final in 1984 as a success. He stood on the starting grid of the final match against Bayern Munich, which was lost with 7:8 on penalties. Rahn was replaced in the 68th minute.

1987 Uwe Rahn was elected with 24 -goal top scorer in the Bundesliga Player of the Year in Germany.

In the summer of 1987, he was the successor of the newly crowned world footballer Ruud Gullit of Monchengladbach go to PSV Eindhoven. However, the exchange failed because of the amount required by Gladbach transfer fee of 15 million marks, the same amount that had been given to Eindhoven for Gullit.

In the following season Rahn fell into a deep form, from which he never recovered. In November 1988, Rahn transferred to 1 FC Köln, in which he was runner-up twice a German conductor Christoph Daum, but could not able to return to his earlier form.

In 1990, he was obliged by Hertha BSC, who had risen in the Bundesliga as a beacon of hope, but could not prevent rather moderate performance and frequent injuries relegation. Then he played for Fortuna Dusseldorf and Eintracht Frankfurt before he finished his football career in the Japanese J- League.

Uwe Rahn now lives retired with his wife in Italy, is a teacher at an international school there.

National

In the national team he played from 1984 to 1987 14 times and scoring five goals. He scored on his first international match against Sweden in Cologne in 1984 with his first touch after his Einwechselung his first goal for the DFB team.

In the summer of 1986, he was with the German national runner-up at the World Cup in Mexico, was not used at the World Tournament team boss Franz Beckenbauer, however, in the DFB team.
