Uwem Akpan
Uwem Akpan ( born May 19, 1971 in Ikot Akpan Eda, then Cross River State, today Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria ) is a Nigerian writer and priest.
Life
Akpan was born in a small village in southeastern Nigeria as a child of teachers. He grew up with his three brothers in the languages English and Annang. In 1990, he joined the Jesuits and was ordained a priest in 1993. At the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan became 'Master of Fine Arts ( MFA) in 2003 acquired from specialist Creative Writing and sat at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska continued his theological studies. His first book, a collection of five stories from five different African countries was published in 2008 and entitled Say you're one of them.
Akpam is currently working as a priest at Christ the King Church in Itasama, Lagos, Nigeria.
