Uzarići

Uzarići is a local community (Croatian Mjesna zajednica, short MZ ) of the greater community ( Općina ) Široki Brijeg in the southwest of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The almost exclusively populated by Croats local community is located in the western Herzegovina and has 1,570 inhabitants in 375 households (2010). During and after the Bosnian War, the number of residents increased rapidly.

The main town Široki Brijeg is about 5 kilometers away, as well as Medjugorje Mostar is about 25 km away. Other cities in the surroundings of Uzarici are Ljubuški, Gruda, Knešpolje, Turčinovići, Biograci and Jare.

Uzarići is a predominantly agricultural town where farming, animal husbandry and cultivation of tobacco was predominant and sometimes still is. A few kilometers from the town flows the river Listica. There crayfish are caught and mostly kept in barrels, in order then to cook and eat. Today, this area, which is also called Mostarsko Blato counts to a National Park ( Neretva Delta ).
