Uzhur

Uschur (Russian Ужур ) is a town in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) with 16,093 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the southern edge of the Nasarowoer sink in so-called " Uschurer gate" between the northeastern foothills of the Kuznetsk Alatau and the further northeast trending Solgonrücken, about 300 kilometers southwest of the regional capital of Krasnoyarsk.

Uschur is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Uschur.

In Uschur there is a weather station.

History

The town was founded in 1760 as chaka sian village Uschurskoje, named after the brook flowing here Uschur (also Uschurka ) in the catchment area of the Ob Creek Chulym. In 1822, he became the administrative center of a volost (about rural municipality ) of the okrugs ( circle ) Atschinsk of the then province Yenisejsk.

1914 has started with the construction of the leading through the village railway Atschinsk - Abakan, which could be completed even temporarily during the First World War, due to delays and destructions in the Russian Civil War, however, only finally in the 1920s.

Culture and sights

In some 20 kilometers south village Slatorunowsk is the Rajon local museum. Not far south-west of the village is located on the same salt lake in the small spa town Utschum.

Economy and infrastructure

In Uschur as the center of an agricultural area, there are companies in the food industry.

The town lies on the railway line Atschinsk - Abakan ( kilometer 154 ) and the R412 regional road which connects the east extending highway M54 Krasnoyarsk - Abakan - Kyzyl -Mongolian border with the mining town Scharypowo.

In about five kilometers south-west to " closed city " Solnetschny ( formerly codenamed Uschur -4) are intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type SS -18 "Satan" of the Strategic Missile Forces of Russia stationed.
