The Usola or Ussola (Russian Узола or Усола ) is a 147 km long left tributary of the Volga River in the European part of Russia.

Description

The Usola rises in the north-west of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast near the village Romanowo. From there it flows into predominantly southern direction through the wooded western part of the oblast. Opposite Balakhna they reached the Volga.

The Usola is wide in the upper reaches 5-10 m, in the lower reaches 20-30 m. The river is not navigable because of its small depth of 0.8 to 1.5 m and numerous shoals, but is very popular with canoeists. The Usola is mainly fed by snowmelt runoff and is average frozen from November to April.
