Uzyn

Usyn (Ukrainian Узин; Usin Russian ) is a town in Rajon Bila Tserkva in Kiev Oblast of Ukraine. The population is 12,588 (2006).

The largest industries are a Sugar Refinery, which accounts 7 % of Ukrainian sugar production, as well as a canning factory.

In Usyn there was a basis of the Ukrainian Air Force.

History

First mention is the city in 1590 under the name Usenyzja later than Tenberschyna. Since the end of the 18th century, it bears its present name. 1971 Usyn became a town.

Personalities

  • Pavel Popovich, a Soviet cosmonaut, who participated in the first group flight into space, was born in Usyn 1930. He was also the first Ukrainian cosmonaut.
