V. Y. Mudimbe

Valentin -Yves Mudimbe ( born December 8, 1941 in Jadotville ) is a Congolese anthropologist, writer and literary critic.

Mudimbe received his doctorate in 1970 at the University of Louvain and then taught at the University of Lubumbashi. In 1979 he went into exile in the United States, where he taught at Stanford University. To date, he is a professor at Duke University.

His most important work dests The invention of Africa is often compared to Edward Said's Orientalism.

In 1973 he was awarded for his work Entre les eaux: Dieu, un prêtre, la révolution the Grand prix catholique de littérature.
