Va'ai Kolone

Afioga VAAI Kolone ( born November 11, 1911 in Vaisala, Samoa, † April 20, 2001 in Apia, Samoa ) was a politician and twice Prime Minister of Samoa.

Kolone 1967 first elected to Parliament ( Fono ). In 1979 he founded together with Eti Alesana Tofilau the Human Rights Protection Party ( HRPP ) to overthrow the then incumbent Prime Minister Tupuola Taisi Tufuga Efi.

After the election of April 1982, he was on 13 April 1982 as a successor to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Efi first time. However, after allegations of bribery and corruption and the initiation of appropriate investigation he had to step back on September 18 1982 in favor of Efi again.

Kolone was again after the parliamentary elections of December 1985 on December 30, 1985 Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. On April 8, 1988, he was replaced by Eti Alesana Tofilau in this office.

After emerging from the HRPP he became chairman of the Samoan National Development Party ( SNDP ), which received 14 of the 47 seats at the 1991 general election.
