Vaalimaa

Vaalimaa [ vɑ ː limɑ ː ] is a town in south-eastern tip of Finland. It is located in the municipality Virolahti directly on the border with Russia.

The border crossing Vaalimaa is the most frequented of the Finnish eastern border and between the EU and Russia. In 2007, 2.7 million border crossings were registered. In the same year had to be built in Vaalimaa a limit parking for 1,000 trucks, because it came on the Russian side due to the increasing volume of traffic and the sluggish processing to truck traffic jams of up to 50 km in length.

The coming out of the 187 km to the west capital city in Helsinki State Road 7 ends at the border crossing Vaalimaa. The European Route 18 follows the course of state road 7 and leads on the Russian side continues in the 203 km distant Saint Petersburg.
