Vacatio legis

The Legisvakanz (Latin vacatio legis ) referred to law the period between the adoption of a rule of law and its entry into force. Many laws and other legal norms determine the date of entry into force itself For example, a law that is promulgated on July 5 in the Federal Law Gazette / announces move its entry into force on 1 January of the following year. Some constitutions, such as Slovenian, specifically state that a Legisvakanz is maintained at a certain minimum duration, so as to give the legal subjects opportunity to learn about the new legal situation and adapt to it.

The term is particularly common in Austrian law.
