Václav Halama

Václav Halama (* November 4, 1940 in Jablonec, Sudetenland ) is a former Czechoslovak football player and football coach. It was founded in 1984 with Austria Wien Austrian champion.

Playing career

Halama spent his entire playing career at LIAZ Jablonec 1964 he succeeded with the club promotion to the second Czechoslovak league.

Coaching career

Halama began in the early 1970s as player-manager of the second team of LIAZ Jablonec, which was playing in the fourth division. From 1974 to 1976 he coached the first team in Jablonec. Then emigrated Halama in the Federal Republic of Germany and settled in Cologne, where he also graduated from the renowned sports high school.

In Germany he was under Max Merkel assistant coach at FC Augsburg, at the beginning of the season 1978/79 Halama was for a short time coach at Oberbergisches A- division circuit RS 19 Waldbroel. In 1978, he became head coach at Grazer AK and won in 1981 with the citizens of Graz Austrian Cup. After this success, returned to Germany and took over the TSV 1860 Munich in the 2nd Bundesliga soccer with players like Rudi Völler, Herbert Waas or Wolfgang Sidka. But in April 1982 he left Munich again and became a coach at Austria Vienna, where he celebrated his greatest successes. Under Halama the team reached the European Cup Winners' Cup 1982/83 the semi-finals and was eliminated after one could turn off the FC Barcelona before, only to Real Madrid from 1984 Halama with the Viennese, Austrian champion. Nevertheless Halama left the club and returned in November 1984 to the previous employer TSV 1860 Munich back. The Lions played now in the Bavarian League, Halama had no success. He then coached AEK Athens, FC Locarno (1987 /88) and again the GAK (1988 /89).

Other activities

After his coaching activity Halama worked as a manager, eighth among other years at Sigma Olomouc. Today, he is representative of the marketing company Sport Five.
