Václav Jindřich Veit

Wenzel Heinrich Veit ( Václav Jindřich Veit, born January 19, 1806 Repnitz, † February 16, 1864 in Leitmeritz ) was a Czech lawyer and composer.

Veit studied from 1821 to 1828 law and philosophy in Prague and received a permanent position of the magistrate of the city. In 1834 he took the examination as a professional judge, and was later criminal actuary. In 1841, he worked briefly as a music director of the municipal orchestra of Aachen. The post of Director of Music at Augsburg he refused. Since 1850 he was a counselor at the Imperial and Royal Court of Appeal in Prague. In 1862 he was President of the District Court in Leitmeritz, where he also acted as head of the organist and vocalist school.

He composed two symphonies ( " episode from a tailor living " for small orchestra and a first performed on October 20, 1859 at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Symphony in E minor, Op 49 ), several overtures, a violin concerto, string quartets and quintets, a Missa Solemnis, a large hard mass and a Te Deum, songs and men quartets and published the Leitmeritzer hymnal.
