Vadena

Pfatten (Italian Vadena ) is a municipality with 1010 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the south of South Tyrol in Italy, south of Bolzano. Pfatten is one of the five municipalities in South Tyrol with an Italian-speaking majority.

Geography

Pfatten is located in the country, a section of the Adige Valley in the south of South Tyrol. The 13.51 km ² area extends as a narrow long strip on both sides of the River Adige from the outskirts of Bolzano in the north starting at a length of over 10 km to the south. The small village center ( 230-240 m asl ) as well as most other hamlets and settlements of the municipality ( Birti, Garnel, cellar, Mair, Neupfatten, Piglon, Schenk, Stadlhof - Laimburg, Wachsbleiche ) are located on the limited area between the orographic right (western) bank of the Adige and the foot of the long-drawn Mitter mountain that separates the Lowlands bottom of the elevated hills of Überetsch. Two other villages are situated in the extreme south of the township, where Pfatten exceeds the Mitterberg: Klughammer on the shores of Lake Kalterer - associated with Stadlhof - Laimburg over the Kreither saddle - and Gmund.

Neighboring communities Pfattens are in the north of Bolzano, along the Lowlands valley floor east of the Adige Laives, Branzoll and Auer, in the south and to the west Tramin Überetsch towards Appiano Appiano and.

History

Pfatten 860 is mentioned as Vatina, 1242 and 1371 under Fatena Phætena. In archaeologists circles the small area is known for its Late Bronze and Early Iron Age burial ground Stadlhof.

In earlier times Pfatten belonged to the district court Laimburg.

As the youngest volunteer fire department of South Tyrol, the fire department was founded by Pfatten in December 2005.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms from 1969, represents the Mitterberg, with the light castle at its center. Among them are two strips, which represent the Brenner motorway and the Adige.
