Vadim Glowna ( born September 26, 1941 in Eutin, Schleswig -Holstein, † January 24, 2012 in Berlin) was a German actor, director, screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Vadim Glowna was born in 1941 in Holstein Eutin county seat, grew after the separation of his parents but as a latchkey kid in Hamburg. The Polish surname Glowna is from his stepfather, who worked first as a captain of a ship and in the postwar period as a captain with Lufthansa. Family life was not caring, because the mother had to manage their own flower shop. Vadim broke therefore at an early age multiple times, by midnight ride for days on your own and stayed away without notice. A study of theology, he broke off and made ​​his way as a sailor, bellhop, taxi drivers, drummer and journalist. An extras job eventually brought him to the idea of attending an acting school. Then he got 1962/63 a role in the Christmas story Once upon a time at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus. Glowna was then discovered by theater director Kurt Hübner and promoted at the Bremer Theater. In the season 1972/73 he joined Hamburg again in three productions directed by Claus Peymann, Niels -Peter Rudolph and Dieter Giesing.

From the mid- 1960s had Glowna in over 160 movies and television films, including with Romy Schneider and Claude Chabrol. His debut as a director, he had in 1981 with the feature film Desperado City, for which he was honored at the film festival in Cannes.

In 1980 he founded with his then-wife Vera Tschechowa, with whom he was married from 1967 to 1991, the production company Atossa movie. They lived for years in the inherited suburban house in Munich Obermenzing and he adopted Tschechowas son, the later film composer Nicholas Glowna. Later Vadim Glowna moved to Berlin.

In November 2006 Glownas first feature film was shown at the last fourteen years. The House of the Sleeping Beauties based on the book The Sleeping Beauties ( German book title ) by Yasunari Kawabata. The project was inspired by the friends of his writer Bodo Kirchhoff. Glowna wrote the script, has directed, himself played the lead role and produced the film. This took Maximilian Schell and Angela Winkler other supporting roles.

Glowna was in demand as a character actor of outsiders. He was easily recognizable by his hoarse, guttural voice. Vadim Glownas last project he wanted to realize as a director and producer ( Atossa movie) was a film about Che Guevara in Hamburg, "Che lives ...! " from a screenplay by Volker guide - Glowna saw it as the final part of his trilogy Hamburg (after Desperado City and this rigorous life ), a declaration of love for this city.

In September 2006, the Ullstein published under the title The Storyteller - Memories Glownas memoirs. One of his last performances had Glowna in " Bloch: The stranger ". This episode was aired on ARD on 20 June 2012.

Vadim Glowna died on 24 January 2012 in a Berlin hospital after a short illness from diabetes.
