Vågå Church

The church Lom, Lom norw kyrkje, is a Norwegian church in Vågåmo, Lom municipality, in Oppland Fylke. The church is the successor building a stave church and there are elements of the old church has been re-used. Although it is sometimes dubbed as stave church, it is scientifically speaking not stave church, since it was demolished in the 17th century and redesigned without the typical Mastekonstruktion. It is still used by the community as the main church.

History

The original church probably dates from the period 1100-1130 AD, probably had no inner masts and neither apse still portico, which are typical of stave churches.

In 1627 the church was demolished and re-designed by architect Werner Olson. But he used the ancient carved portals (western and southern portal ). 1630 a Dutch Renaissance pulpit was installed. 1674 made ​​John Larssen Skråstad from Vang the altar, which was painted in 1677 by Peder Jonsson.

End of the 17th century painted Henning Munch, the then priest of Lom, on the north wall of the choir, the image of the Fall. In the 17th or 18th century a bell tower was built. The bells date from the 19th century. 1914, the church was restored by the architect Heinrich Jurgensen.
